Price labeler labels are a flexible solution for different labelling and marking requirements. Whether price, date, discount, base price or article number, the right price labeler label for every application can be found quickly in Meto's wide range. A component you don't always think about at first also plays an important role: the adhesive used.
Depending on the intended use, it may even be the decisive factor in whether the user is satisfied with the label. This is because a lack of adhesive strength or detachment due to environmental influences means that the label can no longer fulfil its function of informing the end customer. This results in dissatisfied consumers and additional work in day-to-day business due to relabelling, and therefore also dissatisfied users.
In the following blog post, we take a closer look at which different adhesives Meto uses for which labels and how customers can get the right-hand labeler label for them.
Basically, a label is a printed product that consists of several layers. The upper side consists of face material or face paper and can be labelled with a hand labeler. The underside is coated with an adhesive suitable for the application, also known as gummed paper. The adhesive side is protected by the backing paper, also known as the liner or silicone carrier.
Depending on the area of application - for example in the catering, retail, pharmacy or industrial sectors - Meto offers different labels for price labelers:
For legally compliant labelling with price, date or discount information
To indicate the basic price in accordance with the Price Indication Ordinance (PAngV)
For the article number, quantities or years
For egg labelling
For batch, lot or LOT labelling
The application for which the user intends to use the label determines the choice of adhesive: it is not sufficient if the labeler is used to apply a clearly legible and legally compliant label to a frozen product, but this label peels off within a few minutes in the cold freezer environment due to an unsuitable adhesive. The end customer is therefore unable to directly recognise the price, base price and best-before date and, in case of doubt, opts for a different product. This example shows how relevant choosing the right adhesive is for a well-functioning labelling application.
Several factors are always decisive for the choice of adhesive:
What is the temperature of the surface to be labelled? Is it a frozen product or a product for the chiller cabinet? Then the adhesive must be resistant to moisture and temperature.
What is the nature of the material: rough, smooth, textured, with a finish, plastic, paper or cardboard? Especially in the area of packaging design, there are a wide variety of options - and every product still needs to be labelled in the end.
How long should the label adhere - permanently or should it be possible to remove and reapply it?
What are the environmental conditions: is the label exposed to direct sunlight or other UV radiation because the product is outdoors, for example? Then the adhesive must be UV and temperature-resistant.
A label adhesive must therefore fulfil different requirements and cannot be used across the board for all applications. During the consultation, we therefore go through the requirements step by step with the interested party until we have finally identified the ideal combination of label and adhesive for the desired application.
Meto offers a total of twelve different adhesives and rubber coatings for the hand labeler labels, which are suitable for different substrates and areas of application:
Adhesive 1.1: removable
Adhesive 2: permanent
Adhesive 2.2: sterilization
Adhesive 2.5: permanent & freezer
Adhesive 3: for textile
Adhesive 4: super permanent
Adhesive 5: deepfreeze
Adhesive 6: wash off
Adhesive 8: for foil labels
Adhesive 9 / 9.1: for fruit
Adhesive 10 Dissolvable in water
Adhesive 12: Special adhesive in combination with grass paper
For critical substrates, it is advisable to carry out adhesion tests. We will be happy to advise you on this if required.
Meto only uses materials from leading manufacturers of adhesives that are free from latex, bisphenol and heavy metals and does not use any ozone-depleting substances.
Choosing the right adhesive or the right gum is a basic prerequisite for the quality of our labels. The labels for price labelers can only fulfil their purpose if the area of application, material properties, surface and temperature match the rubber coating: To inform end customers about the basic price, price, discount etc. and to simplify price labelling for users.
